Things to Consider

Below are some questions to ask yourself before asking to join the BritFur.FM group.

What genre of music will you be playing?
Think over how best you would describe the music that you'll be playing on your show.
What makes your show stand out?
In order to have a successful show, you gotta take a look at the other shows currently airring on BritFur.FM and consider how would your's differ, what does it bring to the table that is novel or unique? Are you covering or specialising in a genre of music not done by other shows? Will you be bringing across your own personality in the talking? Do you plan to have segments like games and such that aren't already done? Essencially your show should strive to give the audience something alternative.
How good is your Internet's upload speed?
This is very important! Althought the server will handle letting everyone listen to the show, you still need a good Internet connection to stream to the server! Your upload need to be able to send at least 128kb/s to avoid skippage.
Do you understand how streaming works?
Hopefully you'll have done your homework and be able to know the guist of how streaming online radio works and how to use the software. Previous experience is useful though not dead essencial if you feel you can quickly learn it.
What equipment and software will you be using?
A fair quality microphone is handy if you want the audience to hear you clearly. Consider what software you'll use to stream the audio from your computer to the server and how you will control the music volumn and voice over control. Check your setup works.
What day and time slot will you take?
Look at the current schedule and consider which day you wish to take and what time slot your show will broadcast. Remember that prime time for online radio is usually 6pm till midnight, so taking a slot outside of that time range will result in a low turn out of listeners. Also consider if you are available each week to do the slot.
Who will help co-present your show?
Although having a co-presenter is not not mandatory, they are recommended for numerious reasons. Having a co-presenter to talk to makes it easier to bounce ideas and views as well as make the banter talk interesting and easier to conduct. A co-presenter can also take on some of the workload such as monitoring the IRC channel while the other plays the music.
Do you have the dedication?
Radio is fun, but also requires dedication and persistance to become rewarding. You need to be sure you can do the show each week and be able to have some sort of plan for what you'll broadcast and talk about.
